The mission of Vertical Church Milwaukee is to glorify God by loving people and making disciples. (Matthew 28:19-20)
Our obedience to this mission is the foundation of every Vertical ministry. From worship services to Children's Ministry to Student and Adult Ministries, our chief aim is to make authentic disciples of Christ who follow His ways in their Worship, their Walk, and their Work.
These six foundational commissions are what drive our church’s mission.
BOLD PREACHING : Unapologetic Exposition
“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.” 2 Timothy 4:2
PASSIONATE WORSHIP : Worship that engages our deepest affections for God and expresses the truth of His faithfulness, glory, and the redemptive work of Christ.
“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24
FERVENT PRAYER : Prayer that is dependent on God and expectant based on His character and promises.
“Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:18
COURAGEOUS EVANGELISM : Gospel proclamation that overcomes fear in order to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
"Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you."
PURPOSEFUL DISCIPLESHIP : Maturing believers making disciples.
"And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed."
1 Thessalonians 2:8
STRATEGIC CHURCH PLANTING : Partnerships that multiply churches around the world.
"So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us."
Worship Walk Work
The path of authentic discipleship is a lifetime of following Jesus Christ more consistently and closely.
Growing disciples go through a continual process called sanctification, which simply means becoming more and more like our Lord. We like to describe that as worshiping, walking, and working for Christ. And when we become intentional about seeking to honor God in these three ways, we can't help but become "mature in Christ" (Colossians 1:28), growing deeper in our relationship with God and our relationships with others.
Disciple-making is worked out together in our ministry to one another. It’s not about one or a small number of pastors bearing the full responsibility to care for our church (Ephesians 4:11-12). Rather it’s about all who follow Christ using our God-given spiritual gifts to minister to each other, in the context of our Christ-centered church.
How do we do this at Vertical Church Milwaukee? It happens most effectively through our Small Group Ministry. We want everyone who calls Vertical Milwaukee their home to take part in a small group. These are regular times of meeting together where the Scriptures are opened, lives are shared, and prayer is happening. Small group ministry even takes place within our Student and Children’s Ministries.
Vertical Church is a church plant out of Redeemer Church in Rockford, Illinois.
